Best ways to get involved at Bloomsburg

Student Activities Fair- August 26th, 2018

Within the first couple weeks of each fall semester, Bloomsburg holds an annual activities and involvement fair. The event is held on the campus quad and its purpose is to promote the various clubs and organizations at Bloomsburg University. I cannot recommend attending the fair enough to freshman and transfer students. There is no better way to learn about and explore all of the activities available to you (many of them listed below). Sign-up sheets are present at every table, so be sure to write your name down to receive more information.

Greek Life

Sports and Greek life are two of the most common ways to get involved at Bloom. The university is home to dozens of fraternities and sororities. These organizations range from community service oriented to prestigious honor societies. There are numerous national organizations on campus, as well as some local organizations. Becoming a member of Greek life is a tremendous way of getting involved and meeting new people.

Club/Intramural Sports

Bloomsburg is home to dozens of sports teams for both men and women. Even if you do not consider yourself to be the most athletic individual, there is likely still plenty of options to pick from. For men, Bloomsburg University offers ice hockey, baseball, lacrosse, soccer, rugby, golf, volleyball, and more at the club level. As for women, the school is home to soccer, softball, rugby, equestrian, cheer teams, in addition to more. There are also several co-ed sporting options. Some of these include water polo and ultimate Frisbee. As you can see, there are plenty of ways to continue playing the sports you love while at college.

Religious Organizations

Many new students find themselves in search of ways to practice their faith while away at school. Bloomsburg University is home to various religious fellowships. These associations help students stay involved in their religion, no matter their belief system.

Community Service Events

Another great way to be active in the Bloomsburg community is by participating in charity events throughout the year. The two biggest of these events are Relay For Life and The Big Event. Relay for Life is a fundraiser held in the university rec center. The mission of Relay for Life is to raise money for cancer research and celebrate survivors and their families/caretakers. Another popular event among Bloomsburg students is The Big Event. The Big Event is the school’s largest single-day community service project. Students are able to give back to the town by completing a multitude of jobs including landscaping, renovating, and cleaning properties throughout Bloomsburg. You can register for The Big Event individually or with your student organization.

Major-oriented Clubs

If you are a student who is passionate about your major, clubs in your specific field are a tremendous idea. These clubs give you additional time to practice skills needed in a specific industry. Often, these organizations are supervised by professors in the department who have real-world working experience. This is also a great way for students to network with professionals.
