Apartment essentials for your first time living off campus

It’s finally happening. The moment every college student dreams of. You have finally finished your mandatory sentence in the dorms and are now free to live off campus. I’m sure you are beyond excited because this is likely your first time living without some form of supervision. The time you spend with friends and roommates in your own B&L Properties apartment will provide some of the best memories of your life.

In order to have the best experience possible, there are a few things you will need. These five items will ensure that your time off campus is both convenient and productive:

Desk + Comfy Desk Chair

Despite your newfound freedom, it is important to remember why you are here at Bloomsburg. Therefore, it is essential to make sure your apartment is equipped with an adequate desk and a desk chair. You will spend a lot of time here (hopefully) so make sure your chair is comfortable and your desk is spacious. Off campus housing can bring a lot of distractions, so stay organized.

Printer

One of the biggest downsides to living in an apartment is the distance from campus. It is a bit more of a hassle as you are no longer in the on-campus dormitories. With this in mind, a personal printer is one of the best investments one can make in college. It is so much more convenient to own a printer than having to trek to the library every time you need to print classwork. There are plenty of affordable options and this will benefit you throughout your years here. Thank me later.

Command Strips

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of moving into your own apartment is the ability to decorate it the way you please. However, often times you are not allowed to use nails to hang decorations. Because of this, be sure to pick up plenty of Command Strips before moving in. These adhesive strips allow you to hang whatever you’d like without damaging the walls of your apartment. A definite necessity and something you’ll be thankful you did when you get your security deposit back.

Cleaning Supplies

It is likely that you will be living with more people this year than last. With that being said, be sure to stock up on cleaning supplies. With more roommates comes more of a mess. No need to fear; just remember to wipe down countertops and vacuum regularly. Nobody, not even college students, want to live in a pig sty. More importantly, in order to do well in college, you need to make it to class. So, try to stay healthy and sanitary.

Mini Fridge

A crucial addition to any college bedroom. While the kitchen refrigerator is overflowing with your roommates’ rotten leftovers, you will have your refrigerated goods safe and sound in your own personal fridge. The mini fridge is a safe space for precious snacks and (adult) beverages. This is a pricier item, but definitely worth the cost.

College can be a stressful time for any student. Homework, exams, and extra-curricular activities are just a few aspects that can certainly lead to stress. Nonetheless, college will be one of the greatest times of your life. Hopefully these items will make your transition to off campus life a lot smoother.
