Commonwealth University’s Bloosmburg campus is one of the fourteen schools in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Established in 1839, Bloomsburg University was first organized as an academy where young people were instructed in education. Later, it became known as the Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1927 and was then allowed to award students with a bachelor of science in education degree. In 1983, when it became a part of the 14 member State System of Higher Education, it took on the name Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. Commonwealth University’s Bloomsburg campus sits on 366 acres and is within close proximity and walking distance to downtown Bloomsburg. This location provides for great integration between on-campus activities and features as well as what the town has to offer. No matter where you are on campus or in town you are just a short walk from where you want to be.
Between what is offered on campus and what is found throughout town, you will never be without something to do. On campus, the Nelson Field House is home to the Universities’ athletic fields, pool, high ropes course, outdoor climbing wall, Redman Stadium/Hale Field, tennis center, racquetball courts, lounges, and a gym. The campus also includes the Andruss Library, a Carpentry Shop, an environmentally friendly Heating Plant that powers all of the university’s heat and electrical power, and the Greenly Center, which is located in downtown Bloomsburg.

Parents’ and Family Weekend – Since 1970, the Bloomsburg campus has been putting together a fun filled weekend for its students, their parents, and their families. Homecoming Weekend – Bloomsburg’s Homecoming Weekend is certainly one to remember. The day is kicked off with a parade in the morning. Then, later in the day the annual Homecoming football game is played and you will not want to miss out on that. The energy and excitement inside Redman Stadium/Hale Field during the game is second to none. And of course, you will get to see the famous Bloomsburg Huskies’ mascot, Roongo.
